President Dr. Muizzu urges global action to end Israeli occupation, hold war criminals accountable
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the international community to unite in leveraging its political will and economic strength to demand an immediate end to Israel’s illegal occupation and hold those responsible for war crimes and atrocities accountable.
In his message marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Friday, President Dr. Muizzu reiterated Maldives’ unwavering support for Palestine, stating that the Palestinian cause is one shared by all Maldivians.
Highlighting the enduring hardships faced by Palestinians, including displacement, violence, and oppression, President Dr. Muizzu emphasized the urgency of international action.
On his official X account, the President reiterated these sentiments, calling for decisive global action to end the occupation and ensure justice for the Palestinian people.
The President condemned Israel’s actions, describing them as flagrant violations of international law and human rights.
He stressed that Israel’s impunity undermines not only Palestinian rights but also the credibility of the international system.
He called for the cessation of arms sales to Israel and demanded accountability for war crimes and genocidal acts.

Recognizing the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which has supported Palestinian refugees for over 75 years, the President urged continued international support for the agency’s humanitarian work.

President Dr. Muizzu further emphasized that a lasting solution lies in establishing an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This vision, he asserted, aligns with international consensus and is vital for achieving a sustainable resolution to the decades-long conflict.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed annually on November 29, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1977.
The date commemorates the adoption of the 1947 Partition Resolution, which proposed the creation of separate Jewish and Arab states in Palestine.
President Dr. Muizzu concluded by reaffirming Maldives' steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to peace, justice, and the realization of a sovereign Palestinian state.
