President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldives’ new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

The appointment was formalized during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday morning.

The position had remained vacant since former High Commissioner Iruthisham Adam was reassigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April.

Jameela brings extensive experience in public service and diplomacy to the post.

Between 2017 and 2019, she served as the Maldives’ first ambassador to Germany, where she worked to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

She has also held senior positions including Vice President of the Civil Service Commission and Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Her professional career additionally includes experience in the education and media sectors.

Her appointment comes as the Maldives seeks to maintain strong ties with the United Kingdom, which plays an important role in several areas of national interest.

The UK is a major destination for Maldivian students pursuing higher education abroad and remains an important source market for the country’s tourism industry.
