President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening relations with Malaysia as he extended Independence Day greetings to the country’s leaders and people.

In separate messages to Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Iskandar, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, President Dr. Muizzu conveyed greetings and best wishes on behalf of the Maldivian government and people.

In his message to the King Sultan Ibrahim, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and Malaysia, noting that bilateral ties have been built over five decades through friendship, mutual respect and cooperation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to further developing these relations for the mutual benefit of both countries.

Addressing Prime Minister Anwar, the president emphasized the role of high-level exchanges and strong people-to-people connections in strengthening bilateral relations.

He said these close ties have created opportunities for greater economic cooperation and collaboration across areas of shared interest.

President Dr. Muizzu also expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to expand, particularly through stronger economic partnerships and increased opportunities for citizens of both nations.

Malaysia celebrates its Independence Day, known as Merdeka Day, annually on August 31, commemorating the country’s independence from British rule in 1957.
