Police identify suspect in motorcycle collision with Traffic Police Officer

Police have identified and arrested the man accused of fleeing after a motorcycle struck a traffic officer in Malé on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at around 5:34 p.m. at the intersection of Majeedhee Magu and Chaandhanee Magu, according to the Maldives Police Service.

Authorities said the motorcyclist attempted to flee the scene after colliding with the officer.

The officer sustained injuries in the incident, but police confirmed that the injuries were not life-threatening.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Saain Abdul Gayoom of Hathi in Faresmaathoda, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

Following his arrest, he was taken before the court for a remand hearing and ordered to remain in custody for 15 days.

Police have also impounded the motorcycle involved in the collision as investigations into the incident continue.
