President Dr. Muizzu inaugurates Dharumavantha Hospital after tertiary-level upgrade
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially opened the Dharumavantha Hospital, marking its completion and upgrade to a tertiary care facility.
The ceremony, held at the hospital’s premises, also saw the official handover of the hospital's registry and operating permit.
Dharumavantha Hospital, which was originally developed during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, had not been fully utilized in recent years, with much of the facility left dormant or used for storage.
Health Minister Abdulla Nazim highlighted that some floors had been repurposed as warehouses, leading to damages in key areas of the hospital.
He noted that some of the equipment also suffered wear and tear due to lack of use, requiring significant investment to restore functionality and introduce new services.
The 25-storey facility, located near IGMH in the capital, has been extensively upgraded at a cost exceeding USD 200 million.
The newly upgraded hospital now features advanced services, including a hybrid catheter lab, a specialized emergency room for children under 16, and a fertility center.
In a significant addition, President Dr. Muizzu unveiled the logo for the newly established Male' City Group of Hospitals, which will oversee the administration of Dharumavantha Hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Hulhumalé Hospital, and Villimalé Hospital.
