Azerbaijan Airlines connects Baku and Maldives with new direct flights

Today, Azerbaijan Airlines inaugurated its first direct flight from Baku to Velana International Airport (VIA) in the Maldives.

The flight, which touched down at 9:45 a.m., marks the start of a new route that aims to boost travel and tourism connectivity between Azerbaijan and the Maldives, especially during the winter tourism season.

A special ceremony was held at VIA to celebrate the arrival of the first flight, attended by Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) Managing Director and CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Lamaan, and other senior MACL officials.

Speaking on the occasion, MACL’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mohamed Mihad, emphasized the significance of the new route in strengthening air travel options, making it easier for tourists from Azerbaijan to visit the Maldives.

Azerbaijan Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Jamil Manizade, highlighted the convenience the new flights bring to Azerbaijani travelers seeking a winter getaway in the Maldives.

Operating with Airbus B787 aircraft, the new route will provide a comfortable travel experience, expected to enhance the flow of tourists to the islands.
