President Dr. Muizzu congratulates Trump, aims for closer bilateral cooperation

In a statement shared on social media platform ‘X’ today, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu extended his congratulations to former U.S. President and Republican candidate Donald Trump on his victory in the recent U.S. presidential election.

President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the longstanding ties between the Maldives and the United States, noting they are grounded in mutual respect, goodwill, and self-confidence. 

He expressed his commitment to deepening diplomatic relations with the U.S., seeking collaborative solutions to global challenges, and working toward peace and stability worldwide.

The election results awarded Trump, aged 78, with 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270-vote threshold needed to secure the presidency. 

His Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, aged 60, garnered 224 electoral votes in a closely watched race that captured international attention.

President Dr. Muizzu’s remarks underscored the Maldives' intention to further strengthen its relationship with the U.S. under the renewed leadership, with aspirations for cooperative efforts in addressing shared challenges on the global stage.
