On November 1 and 2, Chinese ophthalmic experts held a successful “Bright Journey” eye camp at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, facilitated by the Maldivian Ministry of Health and supported by Hulhumale’ Hospital.

The medical team provided free eye examinations and consultations to nearly 60 residents from Ungoofaaru and nearby islands, receiving a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the local community.

This initiative is part of the ongoing medical collaboration between China and the Maldives, which began in 2016.

Over the years, Chinese medical teams have delivered crucial eye care services throughout the Maldives, including free cataract surgeries, eye screenings, and donations of medical equipment.

The partnership has been further solidified by the establishment of the China-Maldives International Ophthalmology Center in Hulhumale' Hospital in 2020.

Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center has screened more than 1,200 patients and conducted numerous eye surgeries, providing advanced ophthalmic care to the Maldivian population.
