The Government has firmly condemned the participation of a Maldivian contestant in the Miss Universe pageant, citing misalignment with the nation’s cultural and religious values.

In a statement released today, the Youth Ministry addressed circulating rumors suggesting government involvement in the pageant, which will be held in Mexico.

The ministry clarified that the government is not affiliated with the event and will not support activities or competitions that conflict with Maldivian beliefs, traditions, or values.

The Government of Maldives condemns anyone attending such activities in the name of representing Maldives. We also call on those who are trying to participate in such activities to stop it.

the statement said

The ministry further advised the public to avoid spreading claims that link the Maldives government to the Miss Universe pageant.

A Maldivian event management company reportedly sponsored the participant, with the Mexican Embassy in India facilitating the necessary travel documentation for her to attend the pageant in Mexico.

However, the government has emphasized that such representation is neither supported nor recognized as official.
