In a coordinated crackdown on illegal immigrants and unauthorized business operations, Maldivian immigration authorities have detained 23 foreign nationals during a raid at Rashu Market in Hulhumale’ Phase 1.

The operation, conducted in partnership with the Health Protection Agency and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on Monday, uncovered illegal activities in 15 stalls at the bustling market.

The individuals arrested include 15 men and 8 women, all involved in operating businesses without proper authorization.

Maldivian Immigration, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that 30 immigration officers and 24 police officers took part in the raid, which is part of a broader effort to combat illegal immigration and business activities across the country.

This recent raid is one of many initiatives under the government’s ongoing campaign to address the migrant crisis in the Maldives.

So far, over 4,000 foreign nationals have been deported as part of the immigration authority's efforts.

The government plans to expand these operations to cover all islands in the Maldives, demonstrating its commitment to enforcing legal regulations and ensuring proper documentation for expatriates residing in the country.
