Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has been summoned to appear before Parliament to address inquiries regarding the MVR 19.1 million raised through a nationwide telethon for Palestinian aid.

The telethon, titled “Falastheenaa Eku Dhivehin” or “Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine,” was organized by the Public Service Media (PSM) and various local media outlets at the request of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The main opposition party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), raised concerns through South Galolhu MP Meekail, who requested Foreign Minister Khaleel to confirm whether the funds have been transferred to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Additionally, he called for an explanation regarding any delays, as four months have passed since the telethon was held on June 12th.

The Foreign Ministry had stated in August that the funds were transferred directly to UNRWA's bank account via the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) after being handed over to the ministry in July.

The telethon received significant public support, with donations pouring in from government offices, state-owned enterprises, and private citizens.
