Opposition proposes an amendment to reduce next year's budget

The opposition comprised of the PPM-PNC coalition has proposed major amendments to reduce MVR 6.8 billion from the next year's budget. 

A statement released by the opposition parliamentary group regarding the budget stated that next year's budget would significantly harm the nation's economy and claimed that the budget was based on the political requirements of the government by garnering money from the populace.

The statement highlighted the opposition's proposal to reduce the next year's budget to MVR 36 billion and the inclusion of MVR 2, 97,474,863 additional funds as fishermen's subsidies. 

The coalition statement also noted that it hoped that all members of Parliament would support the reform proposed by the coalition in the interest of the country and the people. Furthermore, the coalition statement called upon all MPs to support the following amendment proposed by the opposition.
