Maldives-China friendship celebrated with opening of Bridge Park
A new park symbolizing the strong diplomatic ties between the Maldives and China was inaugurated today in Male'.
The small park, located at the entrance of the SinaMale' Bridge, was officially opened by the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin.
Ambassador Wang Lixin shared her excitement about the event on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where she expressed joy in joining Minister Muththalib and Maldivian students for the park’s inauguration.
She described the park as not only a symbol of enduring friendship between the Maldives and China, but also a foundation for greater future collaboration.
Ambassador Wang also encouraged the youth to work hard, contributing to both national development and the strengthening of Maldives-China relations.

The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure noted that the park aims to celebrate the friendly relations between the two countries while promoting community engagement.
The park is equipped with seating areas and features a display of photos showing various stages of the SinaMale' Bridge's construction.
The SinaMale' Bridge, a vital infrastructure project linking Male' to Hulhule' and Hulhumale', was completed with substantial support from China.
The project’s total cost was approximately USD 200 million, of which USD 116 million was provided as free aid from the Chinese government, with an additional USD 72 million offered as a loan.
The Maldivian government contributed USD 12 million.
A large crowd, including many children, attended the ceremony, underscoring the park's expected role as a vibrant space for the community.
