Maldivian airport worker dies in vehicle incident at VIA

A tragic incident at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Tuesday led to the death of an airport worker, identified as 45-year-old Maldivian, Aslam Adam.

The incident reportedly occurred around 6:00 AM when Adam, operating a luggage vehicle on the airport’s apron, crashed into the base of a structure equipped with lights and cameras.

The police received reports of the accident at approximately 9:23 AM.

Emergency personnel quickly transported Adam to the airport clinic, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

He was later taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ for further examination.

Medical personnel reported no outward signs of injury on his body.

Reports suggest that Adam may have suffered a medical emergency, which caused him to lose consciousness while driving.

The Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) expressed its deep sorrow over Adam's passing, stating,

We are greatly saddened to hear about the passing of our colleague Aslam Adam on 15 October 2024. We will remember him for his dedicated services.

MACL wrote

They extended their condolences to his family through a post on X.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
