President Dr. Muizzu orders nationwide vape ban from November 15
In a decisive move, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a ban on the import of vaping devices and their individual components, effective from November 15, 2024.
The President made this known through a recent post on the social media platform X, outlining a series of steps to combat the rising use of vaping products in the Maldives.
Beyond halting imports, the President has directed relevant authorities to enforce a comprehensive ban on the use, possession, manufacture, sale, advertising, and free distribution of vapes starting December 15, 2024.
This move follows growing concerns from health experts and community organizations about the negative impacts of vaping on public health.
Key groups, including the Maldives Medical Association, sports organizations, and concerned parents, have been urging the government to take swift action to address the increasing popularity of e-cigarettes and vapes, particularly among the youth.
These organizations have expressed alarm over the potential health risks, despite repeated warnings from doctors and agencies.
They have called for an outright ban on all vape-related products to safeguard the younger generation from tobacco addiction
