15-day remand for man arrested for threatening President Dr. Muizzu

Abdulla Miyad, arrested for giving death threats against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on social media, has been remanded in custody for 15 days.

The Criminal Court extended Miyad’s remand after he was brought before the court, following his arrest at Velana International Airport.

According to a police spokesperson, Miyad had posted death threats and threats of harm directed at President Dr. Muizzu, as well as several state officials and other individuals.

In addition to the threats, police reported that Miyad used obscene language on social media and shared posts promoting homosexuality.

Two weeks ago, the police launched an investigation into a social media account under the username 'Ablor Myad Yosef,' which had over 9,000 followers and had been linked to the death threats.

The police are treating the case as a serious matter, given the nature of the threats made against the President and others.
