Indian PM Modi accepts President Dr. Muizzu’s invitation to visit Maldives
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially accepted an invitation from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to visit the Maldives, marking a significant step in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.
This announcement was made by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press conference held in India today by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding President Dr.Muizzu’s visit to India.
The invitation was extended during the joint press conference held today by Maldives and India governments where President Dr. Muizzu emphasized the importance of the relationship between India and the Maldives, highlighting the upcoming 60th anniversary of official diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The President’s invitation aims to commemorate this milestone and foster further collaboration in areas such as tourism, trade, and security.
PM Modi's visit will be his first to the Maldives since beginning his third term as Prime Minister; his last trip to the island nation occurred in 2019 during the previous administration.
As both countries prepare for the 60th anniversary celebrations next year, the acceptance of the invitation signals a commitment to enhancing strategic partnerships in the Indian Ocean region.
