Maldives and India sign multiple MoUs on judicial training, anti-corruption, law enforcement, and sports
During a joint press conference held today between India and Maldives government as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to India, four key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the Maldives and India, marking significant advancements in judicial training, anti-corruption efforts, law enforcement, and youth affairs.
The agreements were signed by representatives from both countries to strengthen cooperation in these vital sectors.
1. Judicial Training
The first MoU renewed the agreement between the National Judicial Academy of India (NJAI) and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of Maldives.
This MoU, signed by Mr. Ibrahim Shaheeb, High Commissioner of Maldives to India, and and Shri Munu Mahawar, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, aims to enhance the capacity of Maldivian judicial officers through specialized training programs.
2. Anti-Corruption Cooperation
The second MoU focused on preventing and combating corruption, signed between the Central Bureau of India and the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Ibrahim Shaheeb and Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Secretary of Border Management at India’s Ministry of Home Affairs.
3. Law Enforcement Training
The third MoU was signed between Rashtriya Raksha University of India and the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement of the Maldives. Signed by Mr. Ibrahim Shaheeb and Dr. Rajendra Kumar, this agreement aims to support capacity-building programs and enhance policing collaboration between the two nations.
4. Cooperation in Sports and Youth Affairs
The fourth MoU renewed an agreement on sports and youth development between the Maldives and India.
Mr. Ibrahim Shaheeb and Shri Munu Mahawar signed the agreement, which focuses on promoting sports and fostering youth engagement between the two countries.
President Dr. Muizzu and India PM Narendra Modi also spoke during the press conference.
