President Dr. Muizzu condemns lies and insults, calls for upholding islamic values
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, during a speech at the official ceremony marking the Day the Maldives Embraced Islam, emphasized that lies and insults have no place in Islamic culture.
The event, held this morning at Dharubaaruge, saw the President urging people to refrain from spreading false news and slander, which he described as harmful to society.
In his speech, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted that Muslims are accountable to Allah for everything they witness, speak, and hear.
He stressed that dishonesty, corruption, and insults have been condemned since the early days of Islam, with both the Quran and the Sunnah warning against such behavior.
The Qur'an advises us to verify the truthfulness of what we hear, and the Sunnah instructs us to only speak the truth
He said
The President expressed concern over the increasing spread of false news and slander, describing it as a "market of lies."
He questioned whether those involved in these practices recognize the harm they inflict on social and family relationships, as well as the loss of dignity they cause.
President Dr. Muizzu further asked if these actions are being done for small, temporary worldly gains, and whether people fail to understand how damaging this behavior is to society.
What a great insult it is to tarnish the moral fabric of the entire country. How many relationships have been broken, and how many workers and friendships have been harmed by gossip and slander?
He asked
urging the public to remain steadfast in Islamic principles in their intentions, words, and actions.
He also reflected on the Maldives' conversion to Islam, attributing the nation’s peace and security to the teachings of Islam.
President Dr. Muizzu encouraged the country to follow the moral example set by Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him).
The First Lady, Sajidha Mohamed, along with senior government officials, attended the ceremony.
During the event, President Dr. Muizzu presented medals, prizes, and certificates to 28 recipients who had memorized the Noble Quran.
The Day of Conversion is celebrated on the 2nd of Rabi'ul Aakhir annually.
