National Tourism Day: President Dr. Muizzu highlights the need to maintain peaceful traditions for sustainable tourism
As the Maldives marks National Tourism Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called attention to the importance of maintaining the nation's peaceful way of life to ensure the continued success of its tourism industry.
In a message shared with the public on social media platform ‘X’, President Dr. Muizzu stressed that foundation of tourism is friendliness.
He also wrote that friendliness, kindness, peace and safety must be sustained for the progress of the country's tourism.
President Dr. Muizzu further emphasized that protecting the peaceful environment is essential not only for the comfort of visitors but also for the overall growth and progress of the tourism sector.
This year, the Maldives has already attracted over 1.4 million tourists, contributing USD 3.2 billion to the national economy through Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST), green taxes, and other fees.
With over 62,000 beds available across resorts and guesthouses and a target of 2 Million tourists this year, tourism industry remains a key pillar of the Maldivian economy, driven by the values of peace and friendliness that have long defined the nation.
