MACL strengthens aviation safety with completion of 29th basic firefighter course
The 29th batch of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Basic Firefighter Course has successfully completed its training program.
This marks the first time MACL’s in-house instructors have led the program, highlighting the company’s commitment to developing local expertise in emergency response and technical skills.
The 43-day course, approved by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, trained 12 firefighter trainees to respond to both aircraft and structural fire emergencies at Velana International Airport (VIA) and its surrounding areas.
Launched in late July, the training aimed to enhance aviation safety by equipping firefighters with critical skills to manage emergency situations effectively.
During the closing ceremony held today, Mohamed Lamaan, MACL’s Deputy Manager, praised the program’s successful completion, attributing it to the strength of MACL’s in-house training system.
Lamaan further assured that the company remains committed to providing continuous training for its employees to ensure operational excellence.
MACL’s Learning and Development Unit has played a pivotal role in offering training opportunities across aviation and other technical fields.
The company’s recent efforts include the inauguration of a new fire station at VIA in June, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to boost emergency response capabilities.
With two strategically located fire stations now fully operational, MACL has enhanced its ability to swiftly respond to any emergencies that arise.
This initiative, along with the successful firefighter course, reflects MACL’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and improving emergency preparedness at Velana International Airport.
