Government refutes claims of President Dr. Muizzu paying MPs

The government has dismissed claims that President Dr Muizzu paid MPs and stated that action will be taken against those spreading false information.

The Presidential Spokesperson denied allegations that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is paying PNC MPs.

The figure published online claiming that the President paid money to PNC MPs is a completely untrue story.

An online newspaper today published the story as a news item.

The newspaper reported that President Muizzu paid MVR 75,000 to MPs this month, along with a video.

Government spokesperson Heena Walid said in a post on X that this is a false news spread to create sedition.

The President is being targeted for the purpose of spreading such false news and sedition, legal action will be taken by relevant authorities.

She also called on the people to beware of such false news spread about the President and the members of Parliament.
