Two Maldivian Intern doctors assaulted while on duty in Bangladesh
In a shocking incident last night, two Maldivian female intern doctors were physically assaulted while on duty in the medicine ward at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh.
The doctors, who were treating patients at the time and wearing their lab coats, were subjected to violence with one being struck and the other dragged by the hand.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, the senior attending doctor reportedly showed indifference, instructing the interns to continue their follow-up duties.
Fearing for their safety, the two doctors took refuge in a storeroom within the hospital.
According to the Maldivian High Commission, over 80 Maldivian students are currently studying in Chittagong, with additional students in Dhaka and Cumilla.
Bangladesh is a popular destination for Maldivian medical students to complete their internships, making this incident particularly concerning for the Maldivian community.
The Maldivian High Commission has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
