Wives of Dr. Mohamed Iyaz detained for disrupting embassy operations and disobeying authorities
Two women were taken into custody today in the Maldives for allegedly harassing diplomatic missions and an ambassador, as well as obstructing law enforcement, the Maldives Police Service reported.
The arrested individuals are Aishath Shadiya, 47, and Dr. Shazra Ibrahim, 36, both spouses of Dr. Mohamed Iyaz.
According to the police statement, the arrests took place around 1 p.m.
The women are accused of repeatedly organizing gatherings near embassies, using offensive language, and causing disruptions.
Police further allege that they targeted a specific ambassador with harassment.
Despite prior warnings, the women reportedly refused to comply with police instructions, which led to their detention.
The police highlighted that their actions violated the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act, contributing to their arrest.
