Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer held discussions with the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SDF), Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, to explore further financial support for upcoming projects on the Maldivian government’s development agenda.

The talks held on Thursday during his visit to Saudi, centered around expanding the fund’s assistance to infrastructure and healthcare sectors, in line with President Dr. Muizzu's vision for national development.

In a tweet following the meeting, Minister Zameer took to social media X,

I briefed the CEO with the Maldives' current and future projects and discussed new areas where the Maldives could benefit from funding, such as infrastructure and healthcare. Expressing gratitude to SDF for the generous assistance to the Maldives, I reaffirmed the need to strengthen our partnership to ensure that our development goals are met effectively

The Foreign Ministry also expressed gratitude to the SDF for its continuous support.

So far, the Saudi Fund for Development has provided USD 470 million (MVR 7.2 billion) in assistance, contributing to 16 key projects across the Maldives. These include vital water, sewerage, and infrastructure initiatives, along with loans for the development of Velana International Airport.

During Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad’s visit to the Maldives last May, an agreement was signed to provide an additional USD 100 million, aimed at accelerating progress on the airport project.
