The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has extended the yellow alert for northern and central regions of the country as strong winds and rough seas continue to affect the area.

Initially issued for the atolls from Haa Alifu to Thaa, the alert, which was set to expire at 2:00 PM, has now been extended until 8:00 PM tonight.

According to the Met Office, winds are expected to reach speeds of 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 50 miles per hour during this period.

The agency has also warned of rough sea conditions and the possibility of swell waves coinciding with high tides.

Given the prevailing weather conditions, the Met Office has urged the public to remain cautious and take necessary precautions to protect their property and belongings.

The weather outlook for the coming days indicates widespread rain and thunderstorms across the Maldives, with conditions expected to improve gradually.

Southern atolls may see some relief starting Sunday, while northern and central atolls can expect better weather beginning on Monday.

The Met Office continues to monitor the situation closely and advises residents to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings.
