Maldives condemns assassination of Hamas Political Chief Haniyeh
The government of Maldives has condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Government of Maldives condemns the assassination of Haniyeh, in the early hours of Wednesday morning while he was in Iran.
At the same time, the statement called all nations to uphold international law and international humanitarian law and work together towards finding an urgent and lasting solution to the Gaza crisis and ensuring peace and stability in the region.
Haniyeh was attacked while attending the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian. A bodyguard of Haniyeh was also killed in the attack.
Hamas said the air strike targeted Haniyeh's residence in Tehran.
At the same time, Hamas said the brutal attack on Haniyeh was a "stupid" act by Israel and would not be retaliated against lightly. Hamas has also said that they will launch heavy attacks on the parties involved in assassination of Haniyeh.
