The  Finance Committee of the People's Majlis has approved the appointment of Ahmed Munawar, the advisor to the Finance Minister, as the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

This decision was made unanimously by the committee members present at today's meeting, following an interview with Munawar.

After interviewing Munawar, the  Committee members gave him an average score of 94.73 percent.

With that, committee has decided to advise President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to appoint Munawar as the MMA Governor, considering him capable for the position.

President Dr. Muizzu sent the nomination of Munawar for the Governor position to the Parliament last Monday, after removing Ali Hashim from the position based on the advice of the Parliament.

When the Parliament sent the matter to the Finance Committee for further study last Tuesday, they also opened it up for public opinion regarding Munawar's appointment to the position as the new governor.

The former Governor, Hashim, was dismissed from his position on the 22nd of this month, in consultation with the Parliament.

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and Member for Dhiggaru Constituency, Ahmed Nazim, proposed Hashim's dismissal, stating that the Governor did not appear to be fulfilling his legally mandated responsibilities in the most desirable manner.
