MACL warns of possible delays at VIA due to global IT Issues
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that a global IT outage may impact operations and cause delays at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The widespread IT issues have disrupted services at airlines, airports, banks, and major supermarkets worldwide.
In a social media post made on ‘X’
There is an ongoing worldwide airline IT system disruption. Passengers may experience delays during check-ins,
MACL wrote
and apologized for any inconvenience caused by these delays.
The outage has affected many countries, including Australia, Singapore, the United States, India, and Spain.
Indigo Airlines, which also operates flights to the Maldives, has reported facing similar issues.
Australia's National Cyber Security Coordinator, where the issue was first noted, attributed the problem to a third-party software platform.
Cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike confirmed that a defective software update for Microsoft Windows hosts caused the outage.
The issue has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been deployed
Crowdstrike assured, noting it was not a cyberattack.
Besides airports, the IT outage has also disrupted operations at major banks, broadcasting networks, hospitals, and businesses worldwide.
