The Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM) has commenced the blocking of online betting websites across the country.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan, 3-4 such sites have been identified and subsequently blocked.

CAM Chief Executive Ilyas Ahmed confirmed that multiple betting sites have been blocked following police directives.

Although the exact number of blocked websites has not been disclosed, it has been noted that visiting online betting sites has become increasingly popular in the Maldives.

These sites are often promoted through platforms like Telegram, social media, and other online channels.

This move by CAM follows the previous action taken late last year to block access to pornographic websites, indicating a broader initiative to regulate online content in the Maldives.
