A generous donation of 44 tonnes of onions from the China Chamber of Commerce has been successfully distributed to residents in Hiya flat, Phase 2.

The distribution began this morning and was carried out by 'The Commoners', an organization known for advocating for housing issues.

The distribution took place in Phase 2 of Hiya Tower 4, chosen for its ample space to accommodate the large number of recipients.

According to 'The Commoners', the onions were distributed to everyone without selecting any specific group, ensuring broad and equitable access.

The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Housing Development Corporation, STO, and the Chinese Embassy.

Speaking to Voice, a member of 'The Commoners' group gave further information regarding the distribution.

A total 45 tonnes of onions were distributed starting at 9 AM this morning and have now been completely distributed. Despite breaks due to rain, we managed to distribute to over 7,000 people

He further revealed that successful distribution will be commemorated with a ceremony on 29th May at Salahuddin School, where representatives from the Chinese Embassy and the China Chamber of Commerce, the donors of the onions, will participate.
