President Dr. Muizzu to attend fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4)
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will attend the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), scheduled to be held in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda, from May 27-30, 2024.
The announcement was made by Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed during a press conference at the President's Office today.
The press conference also featured the Minister of Environment and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim, and the Special Envoy for Climate Change, Ali Shareef, who provided further details about the upcoming conference.
This year's SIDS4, themed "Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity," aims to review the sustainable development progress of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and propose new partnerships and solutions for the next decade to enhance their resilience and prosperity.
Held once every ten years by the United Nations, the conference will see the international community gather to address the unique challenges faced by SIDS.
President Dr. Muizzu is set to deliver an address focusing on climate change and strategies to mitigate its impacts.
The participation of the Maldives in SIDS4 highlights the nation's commitment to addressing climate change and advocating for sustainable development.
