Bangladeshi expat faces deportation for repeated street littering
In response to continuous acts of littering on the streets of Male' City, the Maldives authorities have taken action against a Bangladeshi expatriate worker found to be residing illegally in the country.
Male' City Council, upon being notified of the individual's persistent littering, promptly handed him over to the Maldives Police Service, initiating efforts for his deportation. This action was announced on the council's official social media platform, X yesterday.
The Bangladeshi expatriate's conduct of discarding trash onto the streets came to the attention of Male' City Council through public reports.
Subsequently, the council collaborated with law enforcement to address the issue, leading to the identification and apprehension of the individual in question.
Efforts to deport the expatriate worker are currently underway in coordination with Maldives Immigration and the Police.
This action follows the council's consistent efforts to combat street littering, particularly prevalent during the month of Ramadan.
Male' City Council, in collaboration with the Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO), has been actively working to mitigate the issue, urging public cooperation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Male' City Council Mayor Adam Azim has emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in preserving the cleanliness of public spaces, urging citizens to report instances of littering to the number 9341144 through Viber or WhatsApp, and to refrain from such activities.
The council has imposed MVR 500 fines on identified offenders, including expatriates, as part of its measures to uphold cleanliness standards in Male' City.
