Government poised to secure sufficient seats in parliament election: Yameen
In a recent statement following his vote in the parliamentary elections, former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen expressed confidence in the ruling party, the Progressive National Congress (PNC), securing a majority of the seats.
Yameen, addressing the media, remarked that the timing of the elections shortly after Ramadan and the Shawwal 6 fasts was not ideal.
He suggested a later date, perhaps 2-3 weeks after, might have been preferable to potentially boost voter turnout.
During the interaction, Yameen highlighted the inherent advantages of the ruling party, such as its ability to spearhead job creation and development projects, factors he believes could sway public opinion in their favor.
Hopeful that the government will secure substantial number of seats
Stated Yameen
When pressed about the significance of securing a majority, Yameen maintained a positive outlook, stating his hope for a strong performance by the government.
He downplayed the consequences of the ruling party failing to achieve a majority, asserting that any interference with the government's mandate would be inappropriate.
Yameen refrained from speculating on the support for his newly formed party, the People's National Front (PNF), stating he had not made such calculations.
