Former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has underscored the ongoing collaborative efforts with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), despite the absence of formal coalition plans.

Yameen's remarks came in the wake of a court hearing regarding his 11-year conviction for bribery and money laundering in the Aarah case, where he expressed satisfaction with MDP's support for a candidate from his newly formed People's National Front (PNF).

As the leader, I am pleased that the MDP is supporting our candidate in a constituency where the PNF has gained traction. While we may not be formally collaborating in a coalition, our continued cooperation demonstrates our commitment to working together

stated Yameen

Speaking to the press last night, Yameen articulated his stance, stating,

While we may not have formed a coalition, I am collaborating with MDP. Regardless of whether it's MDP or PNF, I will stand firm on my principles

stated Yameen

Moreover, Yameen reiterated his unwavering opposition to selling Maldivian resources to foreign entities, drawing parallels between the sale of 90 hectares of land for the reclamation of Rasfannu in Malé and the controversial airport deal with GMR.

His stance underscores a commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty amidst discussions of economic partnerships.

We must rise above political labels and refrain from supporting anything that jeopardizes our country's sovereignty,

Yameen asserted, emphasizing the need for unity in protecting Maldives' interests.

Yameen's statement reflects the evolving political landscape and highlights the complexities of forging alliances while maintaining individual principles and priorities.

As discussions continue on political alignments, Yameen's resolute stance serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding national interests above partisan politics.
