Yameen resolute to reclaim and raise "India Out" banners seized by Police
Former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has declared his intention to retrieve and reinstall "India out" banners at his residence, following the overturning of his 11-year conviction in the Aarah case.
Yameen made this statement speaking to press last night after court hearing expressing his resolve to reinstate the banners previously removed by police.
He noted the absence of "India out" chants from the current ruling party, contrasting it with the past stance of the PPM/PNC coalition.
Questioning the government's position on a resolution passed against the "India Out" campaign during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, Yameen criticized the defense of the resolution by the current leadership.
He highlighted his previous alignment with President Muizzu in opposing the resolution, emphasizing the need for advocacy for "India out" policies.
When asked about his plans to continue the "India out" campaign, Yameen affirmed his steadfast political stance, stating his intention to reclaim and display the banners confiscated by police.
He outlined his strategy to retrieve the banners through legal means and reinstall them without incurring additional expenses.
Tomorrow, I've made the decision to retrieve the 'India out' banners confiscated by the police. I'll approach the court and request the return of the banners. Wouldn't it be fitting to rehang them without incurring any additional costs?
stated Yameen
The backdrop to this development lies in the resolution introduced during former President Solih's tenure, which resulted in the removal of "India out" banners across Male' and other islands, including those at Yameen's residence.
