Former EC Secretary General Hassan Zakariyya gets appointed as member of Elections Commission

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Hassan Zakariyya, former Secretary General at the Elections Commission (EC), as a member of the commission.

The President's office announced the appointment today. 

Zakariyya, who served in the capacity of Secretary General for the past three years, received approval from the Majlis for his appointment on April 1st.

With this appointment, Zakariyya joins EC President Fuad Thaufeeq, Vice President Ali Nashaath, and members Dr. Mohamed Zahir and Mohamed Asif on the commission.

The term for a member of the Elections Commission spans five years.

Zakariyya's appointment fills the vacancy left by former Vice President Ismail Habeeb, who resigned from the commission upon completing his second term.

Habeeb had served at the Elections Commission for 21 years in various roles.
