Maldives tourism surpasses 680,000 Visitors, China leads market share

Maldives' tourist arrivals have surpassed the 680,000 mark for the year, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Tourism on today.

Since the beginning of the year, a total of 682,262 visitors have arrived in the Maldives, marking a notable increase from the 596,844 arrivals recorded in the same period last year and a significant growth from the 498,247 arrivals recorded in 2022.

The ministry reported that January saw 192,385 arrivals, followed by 217,392 in February and 194,227 in March.

From April 1st to 13th, 78,258 tourists arrived at Velana International Airport.

The average daily arrival rate for 2024 is 6,560, with tourists staying for an average of eight days.

China leads the list of top source markets, contributing 10.8 percent of the market share with 73,391 arrivals by April 13th.

The United Kingdom follows closely behind with 68,484 arrivals and a 10.0 percent market share, with Russia ranking third, contributing 9.9 percent of the market share with 67,829 arrivals.

India, which held the top spot in 2023, has slipped to sixth place with 38,356 arrivals and a 5.6 percent market share.

Despite its previous ranking of third place, China has taken the lead this year.
