Investigation launched into disturbing assault on young boy in Rasdhoo mosque
In response to a distressing incident that occurred during Tarawih prayers on Friday, authorities have dispatched a specialized team to investigate an assault on a young boy in a mosque restroom on AA. Rasdhoo.
Police spokesperson Ahmed Shifan confirmed the dispatch of the team in a social media post on Saturday afternoon.
The team comprises officials from the police, Ministry of Social and Family Development, and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
The Ministry of Family and Social Development also acknowledged the bullying video and pledged to collaborate with the police in conducting necessary investigations into the matter.
In a late Friday statement, the police disclosed that the perpetrators, identified as a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old, had recorded a video of the abuse.
The disturbing footage, just under two minutes long, captured the bullies verbally harassing and physically assaulting the victim, who appeared to be only a few years younger.
The perpetrators forcibly took a water bottle from the victim and poured its contents over his head, while also forcing him to kneel as he pleaded for them to stop.
Authorities have cautioned against sharing the video, emphasizing the need to protect the dignity of child victims and prevent re-victimization.
Furthermore, the police are collaborating with relevant institutions to provide psychosocial support to the young victim.
