Maldives Customs Service has amended its regulations, now requiring tracking devices to be fitted on safaris transporting alcohol and pork products.

The announcement came from the Maldives Customs Services yesterday.

Initially introduced in 2018, the regulations aimed to monitor the movement of goods and vessels under Customs control.

The recent amendment, passed on February 29 and implemented on March 15, expands the scope of vessels required to install tracking devices.

Under the updated regulations, tracking devices are now mandatory for:

- Safaris transporting alcohol and pork products

- Vessels authorized to anchor in local harbors

- Local vessels transporting goods to vessels under Customs control

Customs reiterated its commitment to monitoring vessel movement, emphasizing enforcement measures against non-compliance.

Any vessels found to be in violation of the regulation will be stopped, and appropriate actions will be taken by Customs services.
