MPL expands economic infrastructure with Sea-to-Air Cargo Transshipment Services

Taking strides to fortify the nation's economic infrastructure, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has undertaken a pioneering initiative by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Turkish Airlines, and Maldives State Shipping (MSS) for Sea-to-Air Cargo Transshipment services.

The agreements, finalized yesterday, signify a significant advancement in the Maldives' logistics sector.

MPL, in collaboration with Turkish Airlines, aims to revolutionize cargo transshipment services with the sea-to-air model.

The agreement, facilitated by Ali Thoriq, Managing Director of Expedite Maldives, the designated agent of Turkish Airlines in the Maldives, underscores the strategic partnership between the two entities.

Ahmed Shareef, Managing Director of MSS, signed the agreement, solidifying MSS's role as a carrier partner.

Meanwhile, the MoU with MACL outlines collaborative efforts to facilitate Sea-to-Air Cargo Transshipment services and was signed by Mohamed Mihad, Chief Commercial Officer of MACL.

During the signing ceremony, MPL CEO Mohamed Wajeeh emphasized the pivotal role of Sea-to-Air Cargo Transshipment services in advancing the Maldives' economy.

Turkish Airlines' regional cargo Manager, Bilal Okuch, discussed plans to collaborate with MPL in establishing the Maldives as a prominent destination for Sea-to-Air transshipment services, further enhancing the nation's connectivity and logistics capabilities.

MPL has officially announced the commencement of Sea-to-Air shipment services from the 15th of this month.

This hybrid model, which seamlessly integrates sea and air routes for cargo transportation, is expected to catalyze business growth in the region and enhance cargo facilities.

The collaborative effort between MPL, MACL, and international airlines promises fast and efficient delivery of cargo to various destinations worldwide.

Notably, the Maldives stands to benefit from increased air connectivity, particularly with Turkey, as the Sea-to-Air service opens up new avenues for trade and commerce
