Maldives Inks deal with China for lab equipment across 17 Islands
In a significant stride towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the Maldives, a 'Letter of Exchange' has been formalized under a grant from the Chinese government to equip 17 islands with essential laboratory equipment.
The agreement, signed today at the Ministry of Health, marks a collaborative effort between the Maldivian government and China to bolster healthcare services across remote regions of the country.
Her Excellency Wang Lixin, the Ambassador of China to the Maldives, represented the Chinese government in signing the letter of exchange, while His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, the Minister of Health, endorsed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
Under the terms of the agreement, a total of 72 islands in the Maldives are slated to receive laboratory equipment over the course of five years, with 17 health centers identified to benefit from the initial phase.

The acquisition of laboratory equipment under this agreement is anticipated to address current deficiencies in healthcare provision in remote islands, streamlining the process of diagnosis for locals.
By enhancing accessibility to laboratory tests, the project endeavors to accelerate medical care delivery and enhance health results throughout the Maldives.
