The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has secured the contract for the land reclamation and beach protection project at Nilandhoo Airport, located in Faafu Atoll.

The official agreement for the project was signed today at the Ministry of Infrastructure, with Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and MTCC's Chief Executive Officer Abdulla Ziyad in attendance.

The project is slated for completion within 390 days.

Covering a total area of 42.6 hectares, the construction of Nilandhoo Airport will also involve the implementation of 2,089 meters of large stone revetment and 1,400 meters of geo bag revetment to bolster coastal conservation efforts.

Ali Ahmed, head of the Nilandhoo Council, is hopeful about the project's ability to breathe new life into the area and enhance the well-being of residents.

He further  extended his appreciation to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for driving this initiative, recognizing its substantial positive impact on the local community.

The initiative underscores the government's commitment to enhancing travel accessibility by establishing airports within a 30-minute radius of any area in the Maldives, be it an inhabited island or an existing airport.
