Aasandha Healthcare Scheme to extend to UAE and Thailand
Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham, unveiled plans to extend the government's universal healthcare insurance scheme, Aasandha, to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Thailand.
This announcement came during a parliamentary session yesterday in response to inquiries raised by Parliamentarian Rozaina Adam.
MP Rozaina Adam sought clarification on the availability of Aasandha services in the UAE and Thailand, prompting Minister Shiham to confirm President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to expanding Aasandha to these countries.
In response to questions raised by MP Rozaina Adam about service scope, fees, and potential impacts on service recipients, Minister Shiham assured that efforts are underway to align with the approved budget for Aasandha this year.
Discussions regarding service models, coverage, and cost arrangements are ongoing, with details to be announced once finalized.
Minister Shiham emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining service quality and ensuring that the expansion does not lead to a decrease in the number of people receiving services.
Plans include reducing wasteful expenditure and implementing necessary changes to the Aasandha system.
We believe that there will be no reduction in the number of people receiving services and the quality of service will also remain uncompromised
Stated Minister
Although the commencement date for Aasandha medical treatment in the UAE and Thailand was not directly addressed, Minister Shiham stated that efforts are focused on establishing a sustainable system without the need for further changes.
She further stated that the details of this system will be made available to the public soon.
