Maldives partners with Chinese firm CNTY for environmental protection initiatives
The Maldives has inked a significant deal with China Tianying Inc. (CNTY), a prominent Chinese company, to collaborate on vital environmental protection endeavors.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), spanning two years, was formalized on Thursday with signatures from Maldives' Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim and CNTY President De Biao Cao.
Minister Thoriq emphasized the pivotal role of CNTY's initiatives in critical areas such as climate change, water and sanitation, energy, environmental protection, and low-carbon urban development in advancing the Maldives' national development and environmental conservation goals.
CNTY President De Biao Cao hailed the agreement as a testament to the burgeoning bilateral relations between China and the Maldives.
The partnership will concentrate efforts on addressing pressing issues including climate change, water and sanitation, energy, environmental protection, and fostering low-carbon urban development.
Moreover, CNTY has committed to leveraging its industrial and technological expertise to support the Maldives' socio-economic growth.
Specifically, the focus will be on enhancing the capacities of stakeholders and agencies dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable development.
Notably, CNTY's involvement will be instrumental in Phases 1 and 2 of the Waste to Energy Project in Thilafushi, with a focus on capacity building and environmental protection.
