Maldives witnesses increase in tourists’ average stay duration to 8 days
In a noteworthy development for the Maldives tourism sector, the average duration of stay for tourists has surged to eight days, marking the first such increase in over a year.
According to recent updates provided by the Tourism Ministry on Monday, the average length of stay now stands at 8.1 days, a notable uptick from the previous average of eight days recorded at the beginning of 2023.
This positive trend contrasts with a slight dip to an average of 7.6 days observed after February 2023.
The recent growth in tourists' duration of stay is particularly noteworthy, given previous concerns raised by tourism institutions regarding the lack of corresponding growth despite an increase in tourist arrivals.
China retains its position as the leading source market for tourist arrivals in the Maldives, with 60,699 visitors recorded as of Sunday, March 17. Russia follows closely behind with 52,385 arrivals, while Italy ranks third with 49,480 arrivals.
Interestingly, India, which held the top source market position last year, has now slipped to sixth place with 31,028 arrivals.
The Maldives continues to solidify its position as a premier global tourism destination, having been honored as the World's Leading Destination for the fourth consecutive year at the 2023 World Travel Awards.
With 1.8 million arrivals recorded last year, the nation is ambitiously eyeing a record-breaking 2 million visitors for the current year.
This uptick in tourists' average stay duration reflects not only the enduring appeal of the Maldives as a vacation destination but also the successful efforts undertaken by stakeholders to enhance the overall tourist experience.
As the tourism sector continues to thrive, the Maldives remains poised to welcome an even greater influx of visitors in the coming months.
