In a significant move to enhance connectivity and promote tourism, Xiamen Air, a prominent Chinese airline, has commenced direct flights to Maldives today.

The airline, headquartered in Xiamen, China, boasts an extensive network with over 320 domestic and international routes, catering to a staggering 25 million passengers annually.

This development comes in the wake of President's recent visit to China, where he acknowledged the airlines' commitment to expanding direct flights.

This concerted effort aligns with a broader strategy to double the number of Chinese tourists, a target set before the global health outbreak.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the tourism sector remains resilient, adapting to the changing landscape.

During the inauguration of the first Xiamen Air direct flight to Maldives, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and MMPRC Managing Director, Fathimath Thuafeeq, warmly welcomed the tourists arriving on this milestone flight.

The inaugural flight brought in a total of 230 eager tourists, marking the beginning of a promising collaboration between Xiamen Air and Maldives' tourism industry.

The officials expressed optimism about the future, hinting at the possibility of chartered flights in the pipeline.

This strategic partnership is expected to not only bolster the tourism sector but also foster cultural exchange between China and Maldives.

The collaboration between Xiamen Air and Maldives sets the stage for increased tourism, contributing to the resurgence of the travel sector in a post-pandemic world.
