Counsel General Filza has not offered official advice on cabinet approval: Parliament Secretariat
In a recent development at the parliament, the controversy surrounding the reappointment of three ministers previously denied approval has taken center stage.
The Counselor General, Fathimath Filza, is reportedly at the center of conflicting statements regarding her advice on the matter.
According to the Parliament Office, Filza did not advise on the approval of the ministers in question.
Despite a majority denial of approval for Ministers Uz Ahmed Usham, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, President Dr. Muizzu has decided to reappoint them to their positions.
During a press meeting by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) yesterday, Mohamed Rasheed Hussain, the MDP Parliamentary Group (PG) leader, claimed that Filza explicitly stated that ministers who were denied approval cannot be reappointed and their names cannot be resubmitted to parliament for approval.
However, this assertion has been challenged by the Parliament Communication Director Hassan Ziyau, who confirmed that Filza did not make such a statement.
The conflicting statements have added confusion to an already contentious issue.
Out of the 22 members appointed by President Muizzu to the cabinet, MDP refused approval for the aforementioned ministers without providing apparent reasons.
The president's decision to reappoint them has reignited the debate over parliamentary approval procedures, leaving the nation eager for clarity on the matter.
