In his capacity as Special Representative of the President of China, State Councilor of the People’s Republic of China Shen Yiqin paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Shen Yiqin congratulated President Dr. Muizzu on his swearing-in. He also expressed confidence that bilateral relations will be further strengthened during the upcoming presidential term.

In addition, State Councilor Shen Yiqin conveyed the congratulations and best wishes of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the President.

During the meeting, the President thanked the Chinese Government for its services to Maldives socio-economic development in recent years. He said today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the historic friendship between the two countries.

In addition, the President expressed confidence that the two countries would continue to cooperate in areas of mutual interest, including regional cooperation, economic cooperation and strengthening relations between the peoples of each other. 

Concluding the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu assured that Maldives and China will further strengthen the close friendly relations in the coming days and work together to achieve their goals.
