Police break into houses, rescue two hostages in Malé

Maldives Police Service have confirmed the rescue of two individuals in separate kidnapping incidents reported within the past 24 hours, as police continue to respond to rising concerns over unlawful detentions in the capital.

According to Maldives Police Service, a 44-year-old man was rescued on Tuesday in an incident initially reported the previous day. 

A suspect was arrested at the scene. 

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, is currently receiving medical treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Police have publicly identified the arrested suspect as Ibrahim Saeed, 48, of Feydhoo, Addu City. 

His photo and personal details were released as part of the ongoing investigation.

In a separate case reported at approximately 6:00 a.m. today, police responded to a report of a man being unlawfully detained in a residence in Malé. 

Upon arrival, officers forced entry by breaking the lock and successfully evacuated the individual, identified as a Bangladeshi national.

The Bangladeshi man was also taken to IGMH for a medical examination. 

While he showed no visible external injuries, police have not released further details regarding the incident or potential suspects.

Authorities have said that the investigations are ongoing.
